    • Standard Time (April-September) Monday – Thursday: 7am-4.45pm. Friday, Weekends & Public Holidays: 7am-5pm.

⚑ Essential Tips:

βœ… 4WD may not be required! – the sand is extremely hard and very flat, making it accessible to a lot of AWD cars too!
πŸ”½ No need to lower your tyre pressure – very weird but it is so packed you can probably get away with keeping that road pressure.
🎣 Great spot for fishing, swimming, snorkelling and relaxing by the water.
⚠️ Check tide times – during high tide the beach shrinks almost 5x its low tide height.
πŸ•οΈ No camping allowed – day trip only!
πŸ› οΈ Bring recovery gear (shovel, MaxTrax, snatch strap) this is just good practise for beach driving but honestly I never needed it.

The Rising Tide

Make sure you check the tide before you go! (KurnellΒ Tide Times and Heights) I think this is the most important tip that I haven’t read online before going.

When we arrived in the morning at around 11AM the tide was at its peak. This wasn’t disastrous but it did leave a thin sliver of the main stretch of the beach drivable. I would say around 1.5 cars in width 😬

Parking Up in the Sun

In a dramatic twist of events my mum ended up getting stung by a stray bluebottle and we had to leave after 30 minutes to go to the chemist for an antihistamine. After a little bit of hesitation we drove back into the park and chose to park on the East side of the beach next to the bay. This was a much better idea, as the bay was beautiful, with warm waters and not a single blue bottle in sight! We ended up snorkelling and there were so much fish and it was honestly one of the best snorkelling spots I’ve been to in a while.

All in all, although it does have a steep entry fee of $50, when split with 4 other friends its not bad for a fun day out directly on the beach with a car full of goodies right by your side. I highly recommend checking it out!
